WRITER’S BLOCK? ME TOO. 5 WAYS TO OVERCOME IT.

Hi guys.

I’ve been meaning to share this post with you for some time now. It’s a good one for writers, bloggers, and content creators. Because we all hit a creative road black sometimes.

As a blogger/ content creator, I’m CONSTANTLY thinking of new blog post topics for you guys. My mind is non-stop. Honestly, it’s quite annoying most of the time. Because wherever I am, or whatever I’m doing, I’m always thinking about how I can incorporate this into the blog.

Sometimes, I just want to tell my mind to fuck off and leave me along for a second. LOL.

On the contrary, someday I’m OUT OF IDEAS. Some days I’m like…ummmm, what should I write about today? But here’s the thing, I don’t push myself. If you push yourself too much, you will come up with crappy content, and your readers will notice.

The last thing I want is crappy content on my blog. We always want quality. Something that’s going to provide value. Or inspire. You know?

I hoping this post will inspire anyone who is going through some writer’s block or creative slump right now.

1. Get a journal and start writing.

I’ve talked about The Morning Pages journal a few times now on the blog. I haven’t written a post on it yet, because I’m still testing it out. You know I have to be 1000% sure before putting it on the blog. However, writing shit out has always helped me get out of my head. And by that I mean, this writer’s block. Sometimes you just need to put a pen to paper and write out your thoughts. Just vomit out all your thoughts in a journal. LOL. Seriously though! It helps. Sometimes we have a million things on our mind and we just need to spill it somewhere so that we can see it, and then decide what we need and don’t need in our minds. Does that make sense? You can literally write out whatever the fuck you want. It can make sense, or it can NOT make sense. Just write. Don’t think about it too much. Don’t be grammatically correct, or cross things out. Just pen to paper. And write.

2. Pick up a book.

Reading actually helps shut off your mind! Which is kind of what I want/need. It takes your mind off all the little things you’re thinking of and depending on what you’re reading, it can take you into another world. I either love a good educational podcast, or I’ll read a good murder mystery book. Just finished really Then She Was Gone. SO GOOD!

3. Read other blogs.

I love this one, because I get very inspired reading what other bloggers write about. Granted, I don’t have too much time on my hands these days to read a ton of blogs, however, when I’m feeling uninspired, I like to browse other sites. It gives me ideas or inspo for something I didn’t think about. This blogging industry is so creative that just browsing someone else’s site, will give you some good ideas and open up your mind to something that you didn’t think of.

4. Go back to old blog posts.

This is an odd one, but it helps me. I go to the back-end of my site and browse through very old blog posts and see what needs updating. For instance, “my morning routine” post from 2017 or 2018 would have changed drastically and would need an update. Now, I don’t necessarily delete any old posts, but I do update. It’s always nice to keep the old ones around. Going back into old posts sometimes brings you back to when you first started blogging. It jogs your memory of why you started blogging, and also reminds you of how far you’ve come. This may trigger some good blog post ideas.

5. Pay more attention to your daily doings.

What are you doing daily? What makes you happy? What works for you? All these questions make for REALLLY good content. Once you start paying attention to the things that you do daily, you will want to share that with your readers. Favourite beauty products, books I’m reading, organizing my dresser, Amazon purchases, podcasts I listen to, are ALL posts that I’ve done because I’ve paid attention to what I do and what makes me happy. If something is working for me I obviously want to share that with you guys. If there’s something that I know will bring value to your life, why wouldn’t I share that?! It’s what The Chic Confidential brand is ALL about.

Ok – what is this list missing? What do YOU guys do when you hit a creative road block?

Also, you must know this fluffy pink coat is from here.

Xx, kim
