Since the warm weather is here (finally), I figured a sunscreen post was in check…You guys already know I’m anal AF when it comes to sunscreen. I never EVER leave the house without some on. Today we’re talking physical vs. chemical sunscreen.
Even when it’s -25 and grey outside, you can bet I have sunscreen on.
Why, you ask? Because the sun is the most damaging thing for your skin. As in, you WILL age quicker if you’re out in the sun without sunscreen. Not to mention the UV rays can cause serious skin damage and even skin cancer.
Don’t get me wrong. I LOVE my Vitamin D more than anything. The sun makes me happy. The sun makes us all happy…
But, it does age you like a MF-er. ( If you’re not careful )
Choosing the right sunscreen can be a chore in itself. There are SO many brands, it can get confusing on which brand is the best. I like something that has the least amount of chemicals and the least amount of ingredients.
There’s also a difference between physical vs. chemical sunscreen. Let me get more into detail here:
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PHYSICAL VS. CHEMICAL SUNSCREEN:
Unlike chemical sunscreens ( found in most drug store brands ), physical sunscreens do not use potentially harmful ingredients to protect the skin. Recent studies have linked chemical sunscreen ingredients to adverse health effects in adults, children and unborn children. Instead, physical sunscreens use Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide to create a barrier against the sun.
They have three types and I’ve tried ALL of them:
Moisture Matte Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Sunscreen provides a powerful broad-spectrum protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays, while offering a sheer tint and a healthy glow.
Clear Shield Broad Spectrum SPF 42 Sunscreen is a lightweight non-comedogenic sunscreen that provides powerful broad-spectrum protection, dries quickly and works for all skin types.
Hydration Broad Spectrum SPF 40 Sunscreen is a silky and sheer physical sunscreen that provides
a powerful broad-spectrum protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays, and is offered in both un-tinted and versatile tint options that blend beautifully on the skin creating a sheer healthy glow.
AlumierMD products are sold in select spas, medical offices and online at alumiermd.com.
The hydration SPF 40 one is my favourite! I use the versatile tint and it’s so perfect. You don’t need any foundation or CC cream over top, because you get a dewy, glowy look from this sunscreen.
Time to ditch those drugstore brands, you guys. It’s your skin we’re talking about, and the last thing you want, is the sun damaging your gorgeous face.
When looking for a sunscreen, some ingredients you want to avoid are: oxybenzone, octinoxate, 4-MBC, octocrylene and homosalate. These are extremely harmful to your skin.
Physical sunscreens will have ingredients like these: zinc oxide and titanium dioxide which contain large particles that safely remain within the outer dead layer of skin.
Physical sunscreens sit on top of the skin and reflect and scatter most UV radiation rather than absorbing it (like chemical sunscreens do.)
Did you know the difference between physical vs. chemical sunscreen?
So, the next time you’re out shopping for sunscreen, keep these things in mind.
