THE HAPPIEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD DON’T SEARCH FOR HAPPINESS.

HAPPIEST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD

Some of you know, I’m reading a new book by an absolute GENIUS, Mark Manson. His book, The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*cukhas got me quite intrigued. I haven’t finished it yet, nor am I close, but I came across a section in the book that talks about happiness, and I obviously wanted to share my thoughts with you guys. Guys, the happiest people in the world, don’t go looking for happiness.

BTW, in no way am I some expert on happiness. I just want to share what I’m reading and is resonating with me. I don’t want to come off like some preachy, know-it-all.

Okay, so let’s chat.

HAPPINESS.

And how EVERYONE and their dog is searching for it. Why? Because a new house, more money, a sexy car, botox, more shoes, more designer clothing will bring you happiness. Right?

WRONG.

He mentions in the book, how we keep on “searching” for happiness, yet we never find it. Because it’s a vicious circle, my friends.

Stop looking for happiness, and just be happy. The happiest people in the world don’t search for happiness ever. Be happy with exactly what you have. What you’re given. Right now, in this very moment, BE HAPPY.

We live in a world where we can keep up with everyone’s lives. The social media world.

It’s all about hey-look-at-my-life, it’s-cooler-than-yours. If you scroll through  your Facebook feed, everyone on there looks MAJOR fucking happy. Right? Eight people just got married, four people just had babies, Brad just bought a 4-bedroom house in Downtown Toronto, and Sally just won the fucking lottery.

Meanwhile, your life sucks, as you scroll through all this ‘happy shit.’ Well, the happiest people in the world aren’t doing stuff like that. They are just happy with what they have.

The social world can really get us feeling like shit, if we don’t get a handle on ourselves. We need to check ourselves and not worry about Brad, Sally or anyone else for that matter. In fact, BE HAPPY for Brad and Sally. Genuinely happy. Don’t fake that shit.

When you start being less jealous, and more happy for others, your life will instantly be better.

It’s hard to block out all the stuff we see on social media. And this is coming from experience. I’ve been totally caught up with shit like this as well. It’s not good for you. It’s not good for your health. Use social media in the healthiest possible way.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat. They’re all tools for success. If you use them in the right way. Take the negative out of it, and turn it into something that will benefit you. Don’t spend hours stalking your ex-boyfriend’s new girlfriend. NOTHING good comes out of that. Trust me.

CHECK YOURSELF.

We only have 24 hours in the day. Use that wisely. Stop trying to find happiness. Just live, and be the happiest person in the world.

When you worry less about searching for happiness, and just being happy, you’ll actually BE happier.

Mark Manson says:

“You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.”

He also goes on to say, ‘Don’t Try.’

This had me puzzled because if I want something, I do have to try.

He then goes on to say how, ever notice how sometimes when you care less about something, you end up doing better at it? Or when you put too much effort into something, it doesn’t always work out? (The happiest people in the world, don’t care as much).

Basically, when you stop giving a fuck, everything falls into place.

We’re all different, and maybe this isn’t something that’s working for you. Maybe you do need to give a fuck for everything to work out for you. This goes for jobs, careers, relationships, etc.

But if you’re a worrier, maybe try this: Stop giving a fu*k. And see what happens.

DO what makes you happy, and stop worrying about what makes other people happy.

My friends & family make me happy.

Cooking makes me happy.

Dancing to bad 90s music makes me happy.

A glass of wine on a Wednesday night makes me happy.

Seriously, DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY.

Okay, so what’s your take on happiness? Weigh in.

Xx, kim

  1. I love this post! It's so true, social media can be hard. It's easy to start comparing yourself, getting down on yourself, and you're right! I try to check myself and say "don't worry about that it's silly, just do you". Appreciate the little things and enjoy the moment. Thanks for the reminder!
