Ahhh birthdays! Does anyone after the age of 25 actually enjoy their birthdays? I’m sharing some birthday thoughts and 3 things I always do on this day.
I’m now 31. Remember when I was DREADING 30?? Now, I’m just numb. I’ll probably get really dramatic at 35.
Anyway, age is just a number, right? Blah blah blah. Positive people say shit like that. Meanwhile, I found a new wrinkle on my eyelid yesterday. MY EYELID…I SWEAR it happened overnight as I went from 30 to 31. Like, could the wrinkle have waited ONE MORE DAY? F**K. Give me a second, bro.
It will be a joy putting on eyeshadow over that new wrinkle. Reallyyyy looking forward to that! LOL.
Okay, let’s turn this blog post around.
So, yesterday was my birthday. It was a good day. I love food, so all I want for my birthday is to spend it eating good food with people I love.
I have some birthday thoughts that I want to share you guys this year.

Reflect on the year and make new goals.
Kind of like New Year’s Resolutions, but birthday ones. I check in on my goals and review them. Did I accomplish everything I wanted to this past year? How well did I do? What more can I do? I add to the list, cross off things that are completed, and revaluate. As you guys already know, I’m HUGE on writing stuff down. There’s nothing more I love than a cute notepad with all my notes, to-do lists, goals, reflections, thoughts, etc. There’s something about physically writing stuff down that is just so liberating. I urge you to try it if you haven’t already. It’s not the same as the ‘notes’ app in your phone.

Stop into Church for a quick prayer.
Every year on my birthday, no matter what, I ALWAYS find a moment to stop into church for a prayer of gratefulness. As much as I’m not a fan of birthdays, I have SO MUCH to be thankful for and I can’t deny that. So, I make sure I take a moment to be thankful. My faith is very important to me, and I practice it daily. Birthdays are a time to reflect on more than anything. It’s a time to close your eyes and look at your present life in front of you. What do you see? What makes you happy? What needs to change? And with that, I see so many blessings in my life. My health, all the important people in my life, my careers, and even my struggles and challenges. It’s important to be thankful.

Splurge on something (sort of) big.
When people ask me what I want for my birthday? The answer is always, nothing. I’m an adult – when I want something, I just go buy it. You know? I feel like at 31, you have to be practical about gifts you get. Like, do I have room in my condo for this gift? Is it going to go with the aesthetics in my home? IS IT ON BRAND? Because if there’s any colour on it, probbbss not. Which is why I don’t want gifts. Give me a hug instead. Anyway, for my birthday I usually go out and get myself something…pricey? A bag I have been eyeing, shoes I definitely DO NOT need, or products from Sephora. All bets are off when you hit up Sephora.
This year I didn’t get time to think about what I’m getting myself, but Andrew did get me the most thoughtful gift. I have been eyeing a piece of art by Elizabeth Buset for A LONG-ASS time, and the original hangs at Lakehead University. No one out there owns any prints of it….except me, now 🙂
The painting is SUPER chic and cool and I’ve wanted to hang this in my office for a very long time. This is it, if you guys want to see. I’m V excited about it!
My birthday was super low key – just the way I like it. A delicious lunch filled with carbs and truffle oil, and dinner was Greek food at my favourite place.
I do want to thank YOU guys for all the birthday messages I received on Insta. I was truly shook by all the love yesterday. You guys really know how to make a girl feel special!
Okay, do you guys have any birthday thoughts? Reflections? Tell tell!
Xx, kim
I missed your birthday?? NO!
Happy birthday gorgeous! Firstly, this jumpsuit looks AWESOME and you look great wearing it 😀
Secondly, I love your 3 things. I would never think of going to church on that specific day so that’s something I’ll definitely think about next time. And I love that Andrew gave you this print (I also voted black frame haha)
Thank you, Honey!! You’re too sweet. And yes, I love that moment of quite and gratefulness on my birthday. It’s something I’ve done for years. 🙂
