Beauty hacks

Okay, so at this stage in quarantine I think we’re ALL feeling a little beauty deprived. Am I right? I mean, my botox has completely worn off, (HII WRINKLES!) My roots have come in, I need a facial, manicure, and a full wax job. Which brings me to my post on DIY beauty hacks for while we’re still at home.

The thing is, none of these things are essential (although that could be debated) but, getting a facial or my nails done sure as hell makes me feel A LOT better. I don’t know if it’s the relaxing while getting it done, or the stress-free environment I’m in, but somehow slapping some serum on my face or getting my nails taken care of just helps with overall anxiety. Makes me feel put together?

Anyway, I feel like we’re all going to have to put the beauty on hold for a while, and DIY as much as we can. No, I’m not suggesting you DIY your botox. Just let those wrinkles in.

*But if you haven’t seen the video of Andrew waxing my arms, watch it here!!

Here are some of my DIY Beauty Hacks for Quarantine Life:

Natural Lip Scrub:

Nothing is worse than dry, flakey lips. If you’re someone that wears lipstick most days (even in quarantine) you need to do this! I sometimes grab a pack of sugar and quickly exfoliate if I am in a rush. But this is my new favourite natural way to get my lips super smooth.

What you need:

  • 1 TSP of Brown Sugar
  • 1 TSP of White Sugar
  • 1 TSP of Honey
  • 1/2 TSP of Olive Oil

Directions: Just mix all the above in a small container. You can store and keep this for a while, but trust me after about 20 seconds your lips will feel amazing.

Three products I absolutely LOVE for lips are the Kopari Lip Scrubby, the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, and the VERY affordable Rosebud Salve lip balm. I’ve talked about all these products on Instagram several times.

Bath Salts:

Who doesn’t love a good bath? Since we’ve got more time on our hands these day, baths are the best way to wind-down and relax. Self-care at its finest!

What you need:

  • Coarse Salt
  • Epsom Salt
  • Baking Soda
  • Essential oil

Directions: Just take 6 parts coarse sea salt and 3 parts epsom salt, 1 part baking soda, and just a few drops of essential oil of your choice. That is it! This combo helps sooth the muscles, helps with skin irritation, and softens the skin.

Hair Masks

It is SO easy to make simple hair masks with everyday things in our kitchen. I have extremely dry hair since going blonde and NEED good hair masks.

All hair types:

What you need:

  • Avocado
  • Honey

Directions: Simply scoop out half an avocado and mix it with a tbsp honey and apply to hair. Leave this on for 20 mins. Rinse in the shower.

Dry Hair Mask:

What you need:

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 2 eggs

Directions: Mix 2 eggs with 3 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil and apply to hair. Leave this on for 20 mins. Rinse in shower.

Facials can be super expensive! I do think they are VERY important and I don’t mind spending the money here and there. However, you 100% can do facials at home as well. Here is a good at home facial:

What you need:

  • Chamomile Tea
  • Honey
  • Nutritional Yeast

Directions: Brew one cup of the tea with 2 tea bags. Let cool. Stir together 1 tbsp of honey and 1 tsp of nutritional yeast. Add just enough of the tea to the bowl to make a paste. You want to be able to spread it on your face, but not be watery. Let sit for 20 mins. This calms and restore your skin.

I also love doing at-home facials with the many products I have. Do you guys want to see a step-by-step video on how I do my at-home facials? Let me know in the comments.

Okay, those are my DIY beauty hacks. Tell me what hacks you guys are doing! Can be anything beauty, skincare, health and wellness related. LIKE, ANYTHING. (Mainly for wrinkles, cause I miss my botox lady!)

Xx, kim
